    One of the two suspects arrested last autumn for an alleged gang-related shooting near a Charlottesville-area apartment playground was recently charged with having a weapon in jail. Rico Lamont Walker Jr., 19, was charged last month after a guard at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail said they discovered something stowed in his clothing.     Four days before getting clocked at a triple-digit pace in Albemarle County, 26-year-old Alexis Renee Gervais was pulled over in her home county of Spotsylvania for allegedly failing to yield and driving an uninsured, unregistered vehicle. But according to a report by state trooper Alexander O'Connell, something more would come on March 7 on Interstate 64. "My LIDAR indicated a speed of 103 mph," O'Connell wrote, referring to a light detection and ranging device used measure speed.

    The judge buried his head in his hands as the mother and stepfather of disgraced Charlottesville television meteorologist Josh Fitzpatrick stood before him Thursday. Despite their travel from Ohio and vow to keep the accused "sextortionist" at home and away from the internet, the judge said the prospect of additional charges was the key driver of his decision against granting bail. "Please don't take that as any sort of disrespect," Judge Matthew Quatrara told the parents.

    The woman whose caught-on-camera off-road driving led to a cartwheeling crash along Interstate 64 will not be going to jail. On Tuesday, a judge convicted 37-year-old Louisa County resident Kristina Marie Mitchell of reckless driving, but he decided to limit the punishment to a $300 fine and a 90-day restriction of her driving privileges. "I think that was the right outcome based on the facts and circumstances," Mitchell's lawyer Graven Craig told The Daily Progress.

    A loud noise and an abundance of caution led officials at Charlottesville's Greenbrier Elementary School to keep schoolchildren indoors for part of Tuesday. "Some staff members heard something at a distance that sounded like possible gunshots or a car backfiring," according to a message sent to parents.
