The Daily Progress

The Daily Progress is the only daily newspaper serving the Charlottesville, Virginia area. It has been in circulation every day since September 14, 1892. The newspaper was established by James Hubert Lindsay and his brother Frank Lindsay. Initially, The Progress was released six days a week, with its first Sunday edition appearing in September 1968. The Lindsay family owned the paper for 78 years before selling it. On November 30, 1970, they announced the sale to the Worrell Newspaper group, which officially took over operations on January 1, 1971.

Lead singer and guitarist James Hetfield acknowledged the crowd as he finished up his final lyric from “Master of Puppets” by wishing the Lane Stadium crowd, “Good night,” three times. Each time he bid the crowd adieu, there was a mixed reaction from the overflowing crowd. Some booed.
Charlottesville man implicated in gang-related shooting found with 'shank' in jail

One of the two suspects arrested last autumn for an alleged gang-related shooting near a Charlottesville-area apartment playground was recently charged with having a weapon in jail. Rico Lamont Walker Jr., 19, was charged last month after a guard at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail said they discovered something stowed in his clothing. "A metal shank was found in Walker's long johns/pants," according to the criminal complaint by Albemarle County police officer Tyler Morris.
