Two tribute walls will stand in Brazil, Indiana, a solemn testament to the veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. It's a community effort as Eliza Rizley Stacey NSDAR, VFW Post 1127, and American Legion Post 2 host the Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall and the Some Gave All Moving Tribute at North Clay Middle School. The walls will be displayed outside in the field behind the school, 3450 W State Rd 340, Brazil, IN 47834.

It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to hear from decorated FBI agent Wes Wong, a man with a lifetime of stories and impeccable credentials, at Thursday night's 9/11 remembrance presentation at Northview High School. Now retired, Wong was the highest-ranking member of the FBI at ground zero and gave an insight into his experiences that morning. Wong worked tirelessly at ground zero that day and the weeks after, directing and participating in the rescue and recovery.

Saturday was a busy day with many activities throughout the area, and community members were out celebrating the warm weather ahead of fall's arrival. The Annual Van Buren Volunteer Fire Department Fish Fry in Carbon is always a favorite with locals.
City in process of checking hydrants

The Brazil City Fire Department began checking and flushing fire hydrants in the northeast end of Brazil on Wednesday and will continue through the end of September. Residents might notice slight water discoloration and a potential pressure drop, but the water is still safe to drink and use for everyday purposes. Assistant Chief Raymond Staub said the process is going well, except for stopping to put out a brushfire. Clay County is currently under a burn ban due to the dry weather.

On Wednesday, the Board of Works had a concise agenda with only the approval of claims from the utilities' and clerk's office and a list of cleanups and mows within the city limits. Brazil City Fire Chief Jake Bennett briefed the board and Mayor Brian Wyndham on the department's August. Chief Bennett described calls for August 2024 as slightly down compared to last year, with 60 calls for service. The department responded to one garage structure fire on August 10.

For years local Cub Scouts have been an integral part of the Clay County Historical Society's Bicentennial Legacy Park, contributing to its beauty and upkeep.
