Three endangered Mississippi hospitals will switch to a Medicare payment model that could keep them afloat after the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services approved their applications for the Rural Community Hospital Demonstration program. Greenwood Leflore Hospital in Greenwood, Magee General Hospital in Magee and the Wayne General Hospital in Waynesboro will participate in the program, which the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services facilitates.

In a special runoff election on April 22, voters in Mississippi House Districts 23 and 82 will elect candidates to represent them in the state Legislature. Residents in Calhoun, Lafayette, Pontotoc and Webster Counties will choose a representative for Mississippi House District 23 on March 25 following the death of Rep. Andy Stepp, a Republican from Bruce, Miss., who died on Dec. 5, 2024. He had served in the House since January 2024.

The Mississippi Legislature’s newly redrawn Mississippi Senate District map does not follow court orders to strengthen voting power for Black Mississippians in DeSoto County, a unanimous three-judge panel ruled on Tuesday. The Legislature has seven days to propose a new Senate district map, the judges said.
