They can also rely on the clinic to provide ongoing orthotic care, including device adjustments, which may have taken months to access before. “We make custom bracing and orthotics from head to toe, for pediatric patients all the way up to elders,” Meagan explained.

Folks wanting to see Velvet Antler Productions shows need to act fast—really fast. Tickets usually sell out online before the dance company’s co-owner, Kate Fitzgerald, has a chance to put up posters. The Naughty Nutcracker performance, last December, sold out in under four hours. The upcoming Spring Showcase, featuring mostly student performers, will likely be as in demand. Approximately 40 people will be performing in the showcase.

On the snowiest day of March, I arrive at the Guild Hall to meet part of the talented team staging the Guild’s next production, Ride the Cyclone: The Musical. The theatre smells like freshly-sawn plywood, evidence of the work Calvin Laveck is putting in as the play’s set builder. “Annie’s telling me what to do, and I’m doing it,” he said, referring to set designer Annie Johnsgaard. “And it’s going really well.”Ride the Cyclone is a dark comedy written by Jacob Richmond and Brooke Maxwell.

Brian Fidler, artistic director for the Guild Hall Theatre, has a knack for choosing plays that everybody wants to be part of. Take, for instance, the play called Mustard, which opens February 21. Written by Canadian playwright Kat Sandler, it’s described as “very funny, very sweet and extremely dark” by the production’s director, Reid Vanier.
