Franklin City Council has awarded a $47,639.58 contract to Russell Standard for asphalt seal coating of 13 city streets this year. The work had gone out to bid through the regional Council of Governments, and the contract that council approved during its public meeting this week included seal coating on portions of Sibley Avenue, 16th Street, Plumer Avenue, Old Mercer Road, Elk Street, 15th Street, Liberty Street, Fountain Lane, Wiley Avenue and Parkway.

Franklin city council rescinded a decision from last month and heard an in-depth explanation of the city’s fire truck situation as the fire department considers how to address a cracked frame on its newest fire truck. Franklin Fire Chief Andrew Eckel first told the panel the series of events which had led to the discovery of the cracked frame in the 2008 fire truck, which council last month gave emergency approval to be repaired at a cost of $329,002.
