Inside the cozy cafe, owner Xiomaira Webster moves swiftly between tables, dropping off plates of golden-fried empanadas before popping back behind the counter, taking phone orders and doling out piping hot cafe con leches. There’s plenty to love on the menu, from Venezuelan breakfast plates to buttery cachapas, fresh fruit juices and custardy tres leches cake.

ST. PETERSBURG — The night chef Michael Roberts decided to have a little fun with fried chicken, fans in the know showed up early. A long line of people snaked around the building at Small Bar, the temporary wine bar and pop-up space attached to St. Petersburg’s Bandit Coffee Co., which was also Roberts’ makeshift kitchen for the evening.

ST. PETERSBURG — Trophy fish and an assortment of vintage memorabilia line the walls, from old fishing rods and oars to brass maritime lights, framed photographs and plenty of seagull and pelican replicas. There are bright red plastic cups, reminiscent of family pizza nights from the 1980s. And in the corner, there’s an arcade machine featuring games like Pac-Man and Galaga.
