Lucas Raymond contributed a goal to help Sweden to a bronze medal at the 2025 Ice Hockey World Championship. Raymond and his Detroit Red Wings teammates Simon Edvinsson and Erik Gustafsson celebrated a 6-2 victory over Scandinavian rival Denmark on Sunday, May 25 at Avicii Arena in Stockholm, Sweden. Being favored by a multi-Stanley Cup champion and first-ballot future Hockey Hall of Famer reflects well on a team, and that is where the Detroit Red Wings are at with Patrick Kane. They can only hope his appreciation of playing for the most successful U.S.-based Original Six Franchise can help lure other free agents, as the Wings desperately need to bring in at least one top-six forward from the outside to give themselves a better chance at ending a nine-year playoff drought.

There was nothing close about the earlier game in Herning: Marco Kasper's Austrians were routed, 6-0, by central European neighbor Switzerland.

Nikolaj Ehlers, a pending unrestricted free agent, is a potential target for the Detroit Red Wings. Ehlers has a consistent scoring record, reaching at least 20 goals in eight of the last nine seasons. The 2025 IIHF World Championship is entering elimination stage, and several of the quarterfinals will be a compelling watch for the Detroit Red Wings. Both ones involving Wings players, of course: Austria (Marco Kasper) vs. Switzerland; Sweden (Lucas Raymond and Erik Gustafsson) vs. Czechia.
