The Oahe Zap went 1-3 in their home opening series against the Fremont Moo from Thursday to Sunday this week, winning the second matchup and dropping the other three. Game one:In the first matchup, the Zap played a low scoring game through the eighth inning. Aside from a Jaxson Mix single to put the Zaps’ first run on the board in the sixth, and a run from the Moo in the sixth, neither team was able to get much offense going.

Pierre and SC track and field:At the state championships in Sioux Falls last weekend, Jared Lutmer (3,200 meters) and Reese Terwilliger (shot put) both won state championships for the Govs. Lutmer finished off a great senior year campaign in which he was also the state champion during the cross country season, and finished with a time of 9:20:47. Terwilliger won her second straight state title, finishing with a distance of 41-10.50.

Mason Ward-Zeller, a junior swimmer from Pierre, has gone from competing with the best high school swimmers in South Dakota to the best from across the United States. Earlier this month, he competed at the Sugar Cup in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, a competition which took place at the International Swimming Hall of Fame and featured the top qualifying swimmers from across the country.

Baseball All-State team:Pierre's Jett Zabel (P) and Nolan Peterson (C, DH) were named first-team all-state. Ridge Leimbach was second-team all-state. George Stalley was named first-team all-region. Stanley County track:Stanley County participated in the Last Chance Meet in Potter County on Friday. For the boys, Barret Schweitzer won the javelin at 146-8, and Paxton Deal won the long jump at 20-3.50. For the girls, Brianna Sargent won the 400 meter dash at 1:03.96.

Game one:With runners on second and third, one out, and just a one run lead, reliever J.J. Bucholz found himself in a dangerous situation in the final inning at home against Yankton on Friday night. Prior to that moment, Bucholz, who was a key part of their state tournament winning run last season, had been having a difficult inning. Yankton had reduced a 6-3 lead to 6-5 with a pair of RBI singles, and had gotten runners on second and third through a bunt hit and a wild pitch.
