Herbert Ponting and Lawrence Oates: illustrated talk by Anne StrathieLawrence Oates was only one of many expedition members Herbert Ponting photographed and filmed during Robert Scott’s Terra Nova expedition. When news broke in early 1913 of the deaths of Scott, Oates and other members of the South Pole party, images of Oates and his companions appeared in publications all over the world, in expedition reports, exhibitions, postcards and in Ponting’s cinema-lectures.

Herbert Ponting remains most famous for taking breath-taking photographs and moving pictures during Captain Scott’s Terra Nova Expedition to Antarctica in 1910-1913.
