EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- The road to recovery from drug addiction is challenging, and not always easy to navigate. Doug and Terri Rutter know that all too well. Their 30-year old son Rylie died last year from an accidental fentanyl overdose, after years of trying to get sober. The Rutters created the Rylie V Rutter Foundation. It's goal is to provide treatment scholarships, sober living, job training and other services to help those striving for recovery.

Rylie Rutter was 30 years old when he lost his years-long struggle with addiction, which was filled with highs and lows for the whole family. His parents, Terri and Doug Rutter, sat down with me to talk about his struggles, and how they are determined after his death to make a difference for others fighting addiction in El Paso. They created the Rylie V Rutter Foundation.

Now, due to the success of the program that taught the kids these life-changing skills, it's expanding to even more schools. The initiative launched last year to reimagine and transform El Paso schools just received a hefy grant of $250,000 to expand and help even more students.
