    Plans for a new 3G football pitch at Stansted’s Forest Hall School have led to the cancellation of this year’s village fireworks display. Stansted Parish Council chair Maureen Caton said it was a “real, real shame” that the community event had stalled following such a successful return last year. Organisers had previously struggled to find a suitable venue and the village went without a public display for five years until the school stepped in to offer up its playing fields.

    A 23-year-old man has died following an accident in Littlebury near Saffron Walden on Thursday morning (June 12), Essex police has confirmed. Emergency services were called to the single-vehicle crash in Strethall Road shortly after 8am. The road was closed in both directions for several hours and motorists were advised to avoid the area.

    Published: 14:00, 17 June 2025 Overhanging trees caused a power cut in Stansted on Saturday (June 14) which saw more than 1,700 customers affected. The outages came and went over several hours with villagers reporting problems around High Lane, Lower Street, Chapel Hill and St John’s Road. A UK Power Networks team was sent to the area to investigate. Said a spokesman for the company: “Around 1,700 customers lost power in Stansted Mountfitchet at 12.55pm on Saturday.

    Uttlesford District Council has issued 7,000 letters to postal voters who need to renew their details. New rules introduced by the Government mean postal voters need to renew their application to vote by post every three years. A deadline of January 31 2026 is in place for anyone who applied to vote by post before 31 October 2023. Failure to update their details will result in their postal vote option being cancelled.

    A new girl band on the block has emerged featuring a 12-year-old student from Bishop’s Stortford’s Avanti Grange Secondary School. Asia Treend, from Takeley, is part of the five-strong group LABEL, whose debut single, Black Sheep, has just launched across all streaming platforms to positive reviews. Ranging in ages from 11 to 14, the fresh new electro pop/rock girl band is “bringing big energy and bolt attitude” to the music scene with an exciting summer ahead.
