Republican Jefferson Griffin conceded the North Carolina Supreme Court race Wednesday, ending his unprecedented effort to throw out over 65,000 votes in hopes of overturning the November election’s outcome. His concession marked the end of the last uncalled contest of the 2024 Election. Griffin’s decision followed a Monday federal court ruling by U.S. District Judge Richard Myers, who determined that the contested ballots must remain in the final count.

Undergraduate Young Trustee finalist Jax Nalley hopes to leverage his love of and extensive involvement with Duke in order to strengthen the University’s capacity to impact more students and navigate current tensions in higher education. A senior from Springdale, Arkansas, Nalley is majoring in public policy and romance studies. He is also a Robertson Scholar and dual-enrolled at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

For 24 straight hours, beginning at 3 p.m. on Monday and ending at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, members of and volunteers for the read aloud the names of victims of genocides in the 20th and 21st centuries. The name reading ceremony is an annual event that CPM, a coalition which includes a variety of campus organizations, has hosted since 2013. This year, it is hosted on Abele Quad on West Campus near the clocktower.

As the academic year comes to a close, here are the key dates, details and resources that students need to know before move-out. Campus residence halls and apartments will close May 6 at noon. Students with extended housing approval and graduating seniors will be able to stay for one extra week until May 13 at noon. After this date, students approved to live on campus for the summer will move to their assigned summer living arrangements.

Duke Student Government senators convened Wednesday to approve funds in hopes of making Personal Checks, an annual Krzyzewskiville tenting party, safer for students. DSG approved $5,850 in funding for personal pizzas and hot chocolate to be available to all K-Ville tenters on the evening of P-Checks in order to minimize the risks of heavy drinking among students.

Following a payment mistake that left over 1,000 employees overpaid for months and walkouts after the district announced pay cuts, the Durham Public Schools Board of Education announced Monday that affected workers can keep what they received through January 2024. The overpayments began in October, a result of accounting errors that left 1,300 employees classified in higher pay steps.
