The precious metal dates back to 3600BC according to the Royal Mint. It says that this is when gold was first smelted – extracted – in Ancient Egypt. Much later in 2600 BC, Egyptian hieroglyphs describe gold as being “more plentiful than dirt”. The earliest known map dates from this time and shows the plan of a gold mine.

Per the New York Times, Hegseth shared essentially the same attack plans that he did in another Signal chat which accidentally included the editor of The Atlantic. That chat is being investigated by the Defense Department’s acting inspector general.
