While writing this article, my writer’s block was rooted in my inability to decide where I stand when it comes to Superman. I have always loved Batman. His costume, Batmobile, and vigilante-antihero nature make Batman someone I root for, but I cannot say the same about Superman. Perhaps it is because every time I hear someone express their preference for Superman, that someone is almost always male. Sometimes I imagine the creator of Superman envisioned himself as the character.

The scene is like any ordinary operating room. The surgeon overseeing the operation is methodically preparing himself and his medical instruments for the transplant he is about to undertake. He has gone over the steps of the procedure with his staff, composed of 30 doctors, nurses, and technicians, beforehand. Soon, his patients will be lying side by side. Only, this isn’t an ordinary surgery. The patients are two rhesus monkeys, the doctor is renowned neurosurgeon Dr. Robert J.

On Jan. 8, Pennsylvania State Representative Joe Ciresi referred House Bill No. 24 to the Committee on Housing and Community Development. The bill, known as the “Off-Campus Student Housing Tenant Rights Act,” would, if enacted, require university students seeking off-campus housing to become educated on their rights as tenants through an online course.

During an amniocentesis test, a long, thin needle is guided by an ultrasound and is inserted through the abdominal wall, passing into the amniotic sac that surrounds the baby. From there, a sample of the amniotic fluid is extracted for analysis. Amniocentesis confirmed the fetus lacked both copies of the SMN1 gene, leading to an SMA diagnosis, and the presence of two copies of the SMN2 gene was a predictive sign of SMA type 1.

Carnegie Mellon School of Drama’s production of “Ghosts” was showcased from Feb. 26 to March 1 in the Philip Chosky Theater at the Purnell Center for the Arts. Many people poured themselves into this adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s “Ghosts,” from the actors, to the dramaturgs, to the scenic designers. To better understand “Ghosts,” I had the opportunity to talk to the director, Carlos E. Martínez, who provided insight into the work and motivation behind the production.
