Increased anxiety about global security and interdependence has led Chinese policymakers to reconsider China’s economic integration with other countries, including Canada. The Chinese market once was a promising outlet for Canadian goods and services. Exports to China grew to $19.9 billion in 2013 from $1.74 billion in 1997. But in the last decade, the momentum has been lost. Exports reached only $22.6 billion in 2023.

Zwitterionic polymers have emerged as an important class of biomaterials to construct wound dressings and antifouling coatings over the past decade due to their excellent hydrophilicity. However, all the reported zwitterionic polymers are non-degradable because of non-cleavable carbon-carbon bonding backbones, and must be removed periodically after treatment to avoid hypoxia in the wound, thus leading to potential secondary injury.

Breast cancer is the most common malignancy and causes the second-highest number of cancer deaths among women worldwide [1,2]. Surgical resection is recommended for patients with breast cancer at the early stage, which might contribute to satisfactory survival outcomes [3–5]. However, once patients develop invasive breast cancer, their treatment is limited and survival is poor; thus, early screening is imperative [6,7].
