ATLANTA (WANF/Gray News) — A 10-year-old girl was killed and two of her family members were sent to the hospital after a large tree fell on their home overnight. Atlanta Fire Rescue Department crews responded to the 1400 block of Mims Street SW at about 3 a.m. Saturday, when they found the tree had snapped in half and collapsed onto the house. Erica Dixon, a fourth-grade student at KIPP WAYS Academy, died from the impact.

ATLANTA, Ga. (WANF/Gray News) - A 29-year-old woman in Georgia will spend the rest of her life in prison after she pleaded guilty to killing her daughter by abandoning her in a closet. Alondra Hobbs was convicted of two counts of malice murder, two counts of felony murder and two counts of first degree cruelty to children. She was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole on Wednesday, according to the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office.
