About 75 community members gathered at meetings Tuesday and Wednesday to discuss the Evanston/Skokie School District 65 school closure criteria that were presented to the school board Monday night. Kingsley Elementary School hosted Tuesday night and the Dr. Jorge and Luz Maria Prieto Community Center hosted a session Wednesday morning. Each session was about 90 minutes long and was led by Assistant Superintendent Stacy Beardsley, who is also a D65 parent.

Families of the future Foster School gathered Saturday afternoon for refreshments, listening to a DJ and games. Parents and volunteers chatted with one another as kids played corn hole and on the playground at Twiggs Park. ComEd announced Thursday the launch of a one-time, $10 million Customer Relief Fund to address higher electricity costs this summer. Beginning July 7, customers can apply for assistance. Low-income residential and nonprofit customers are eligible to apply. Increased energy use in the summer months, as well as an auction by electrical grid operator PJM that raised capacity charges, will raise prices on electricity for ComEd customers, likely through May of next year.

In a packed room Monday night, more than 30 people spoke in support of Evanston Township High School teacher Andrew Ginsberg, who faced censure this spring for displaying a controversial poster outside his classroom. Though most speakers criticized the District 202 board’s May response to Ginsberg’s poster, others praised the board and criticized Ginsberg for his choice to hang it in the first place.
