OverviewBronchiolitis is a very common viral lower respiratory tract infection in infants that consists of swelling of the small airway passages in the lungs. The most common etiology of bronchiolitis is respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), with the highest incidence of infection occurring between October and March in the Northern Hemisphere. RSV can cause serious disease in infants and some children and results in a large number of emergency department and physician office visits each year.

Rubella vaccine is usually given in combination with measles and mumps vaccines as a measles-mumps-rubella vaccination. Because it contains live attenuated virus, its use is contraindicated during pregnancy. However, since the introduction of rubella vaccine, no cases of congenital rubella syndrome have been reported following vaccination during pregnancy.
