Photon irradiation animal model. Animals were irradiated into a SARRP under gaseous anesthesia (a,b). A positioning scanner prior to the photon X-beam irradiation was performed for every animal to adjust the trajectory strictly on the eyeball (c) whilst avoiding peripheral tissues. Irradiated eyes analyzed after one week (d) did not show any visible modification while hair loss, skin depigmentation, and moderate cataract were observed one month after irradiation (e).
