FIRED UP FOR THIS: The Timberwolves-Golden State series was going to be fire from the start. But it has picked up even more heat because (1) Stephen Curry’s injury that will keep him out (at least) the next three games, (2) The Wolves disappointing effort in the Game 1 loss, (3) Whether Anthony Edwards can regain the spectacular late-season form that deserted him in the opener. The themes resume plying out tonight at Target Center and then spread west with Games 3 and 4 on Saturday and Monday.

THE OPENER: Let’s go right to coach Chris Finch’s postgame summary from minutes after the Wolves took an odd route to eliminating the Lakers by winning Game 5 of their first-round playoff series: “We're gonna celebrate this because this team took a lot of shit through the season.”THE ODD ROUTE? After scoring 43 points in Game 4 and averaging just under 30 through the first four games, Anthony Edwards took on a supporting role because his shot-making skills went on leave.

OPENING NOTE: Another awful end to a Vikings season. Another couple games of terrible basketball by the Gophers men. Another close and frustrating loss for the Wolves. The Wild lost twice to teams they must learn to beat. A three-loss Wednesday with the Wild, Wolves and Frost falling short. But we’ll try to make some sense of it here and maybe get you to smile through the suffering. There’s even a video that pretty much sums up how I’m feeling about Minnesota sports right now.
