BEIJING, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- China has witnessed its warmest autumn since complete meteorological observation records began in 1961, the National Climate Center said on Wednesday. Between Sept. 1 and Nov. 30, the average temperature nationwide was 11.8 degrees Celsius, 1.5 degrees Celsius higher than the average of the same period in previous years, according to the center.

PARIS, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- Japan overcame seven-time winner Italy to clinch its first-ever men's foil team gold at the Paris Olympics as the fencing competition ended on Sunday. Japan led in the first two bouts, before silver medalist of the individual event Filippo Macchi outscored Kyosuke Matsuyama to put Italy ahead after the third bout. Yudai Nagano came off the bench and smashed Italy's substitute Alessio Foconi 5-0, giving Japan a six-point lead into the final bout.

PARIS, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- Ukraine came from behind to beat South Korea in the women's sabre team final, clinching the country's first gold at the Paris Olympic Games here on Saturday. Olga Kharlan was no doubt the star of the night, coming into the final with a bronze from the individual event on Monday. The five-time Olympian put Ukraine ahead after the first bout, but the South Koreans then overcame a slow start to take the lead.
