Can every small business owner put a box of Mandarin oranges at their checkout (price: $25/orange) and stay open for all their operations? The lockdown should apply to products and services - no sales of non-essentials allowed for anyone.

Check out this important thread outlining the unfairness of Manitoba's lockdown rules for retailers. Does a filled Costco and shuttered small businesses help reduce the spread of COVID-19? Asking for thousands of small retailer friends in Manitoba.

If flattening the curve requires shutting down some retail, it seems like shutting down all retail of those products should be the model. Having the TV and clothing aisle in a Costco does not make retransmission any less likely than in the ailses of a specialty store.

Manitoba's new lockdown shuts down all small retailers to in-store commerce but allows Walmart and Costco to sell t-shirts and TVs because they also sell groceries. Not only is this deeply unfair to small firms, but it makes no sense from a COVID safety perspective.

I like the idea of calling Collections instead of General Enquiries - if you have a balance, they should know about it.
