The rise of Sir Keir Starmer was grounded in repeated victories over the Labour left. Having run for the leadership as a sort of Jeremy Corbyn-lite, he has since repudiated the socialist policies he once endorsed, pushed centrist allies into key leadership roles across the party, and thrown prominent leftists out of Labour altogether – including, of course, Corbyn himself. Every time, the left has howled with fury and accused Starmer of shutting down democracy.
