BLUE MOUNTAIN - The planned future home of Blue Mountain Christian University’s School of Nursing was brought one step closer to reality on Friday, May 2, as a groundbreaking ceremony was held on campus to celebrate the milestone and the future of the university’s academic capabilities. The ceremony, despite having to be moved indoors due to inclement weather, brought together school officials, local community members, alumni, students, and staff to celebrate the occasion.

RIPLEY - A ribbon cutting ceremony was held on Friday, May 2 for Freemans & Co., a new meat market and specialty goods store located on West Water Street in downtown Ripley. “It’s awesome. It’s good to see a small community come out and support a small business,” Owner Chris Freeman said following the ribbon cutting. “Small businesses make the world go round. A ribbon cutting for a new meat market and speciality goods store, as well as a groundbreaking ceremony for a new learning center on the campus of Blue Mountain Christian University, is set for this upcoming Friday, May 2. The ribbon cutting for Freemans & Co. Meat Market will be on Friday at 9 a.m., at their new location on 203 West Water Street in Ripley. Freemans & Co. Meat Market looks to be a new location for fresh, local meats and speciality items, including cooking and sporting goods.

Local college and career readiness coaches and teachers have been hard at work preparing local students for life after graduation, as several groups of students from several different local schools have recently completed trips to local colleges, attended work skills programs, and have gained valuable life skills through workshops. Ashland High School Career Coach Meg Thomas and Principal Steven Griffin recently took several AHS seniors on a trip to tour Northwest Community College.

For men and women who generally don’t get paid for what they do, volunteer firefighters give a whole lot to their respective communities. Most of this area’s volunteer firefighters have full-time jobs. The first round of the 2025 MHSAA State Softball Playoffs began this past weekend with five area teams beginning their playoff pushes.
