The general election for several local municipalities will be held next Tuesday, June 3. Voters hoping to vote absentee have until this upcoming Saturday, May 31, to do so. According to the Mississippi Secretary of State’s office, municipal clerk’s offices will on Saturday, May 31, from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m. noon for absentee voting. May 31 is the in-person absentee voting deadline.

Memorial Day is a time of appreciation, remembrance, and introspection for many, myself included. My job has afforded me many opportunities to attend and cover Veterans Day and Memorial Day events, such as this past Monday’s event in Ripley. One thing I always look forward to are the guest speakers, as each one has brought different viewpoints and perspectives on service, sacrifice, and many other aspects of being in the military.
