Washington Demon baseball suffered its second straight loss on Friday night with a 12-2 loss to Solon at home. Prior, the Demons fell to Muscatine 8-1 on Wednesday. The Spartans put 12 runs on the Demons in the non-conference bout. Meanwhile, Washington scored just two themselves. Mitchell Zieglowsky, Boden Brown, Cole Vetter and Isaac Medrano each had one hit.

The Trojans bounced back from a loss to Central Lee on Wednesday with a pair of wins on Saturday against Van Buren County and Moravia, winning 13-2 and 9-5 respectively. The Trojans were defeated by Central Lee 12-9.

The Trojans defeated Van Buren County on Wednesday and followed up with a split against Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont in a doubleheader. The Trojans topped VBC 7-5, while winning 13-8 and losing 6-4 to E-B-F. Fairfield fell behind early against VBC. The Warriors scored two runs in the first inning.

The Comets scored two runs through three innings, but scored five in the fourth and three more in the sixth to pull away. Cardinal led Davis County just 5-4 after two innings, but the Comets went on to score seven through the fourth and sixth innings.

The Wildcats scored five runs between the third and fourth before add one additional in the seventh. Hillcrest Academy picked up a SEISC North win on Tuesday against Pekin. The Ravens scored a run in all but one inning on the night. It was an 8-6 ballgame after four frames, but the Ravens added five more the rest of the way out.

RIVERSIDE — Washington baseball kicked off its 2025 campaign on Tuesday night with a resilient 7-5 comeback victory over the Huskies of Highland. Highland took the early lead, but Washington showed composure to secure the win. The Huskies took advantage of early miscues by the Demons and turned it into three runs through the first three innings.

Two teams will be competing for a chance at some hardware, while two individuals will look for a medal themselves. The Highland girls and Hillcrest Academy boys will be in the 1A field. New London’s Emma Busby will join the Huskies in 1A as well.

DES MOINES — The Iowa Girls and Boys State Track and Field Championships at Drake University in Des Moines were a hot spot for Union area long jumpers on Thursday and Friday. Eight area athletes competed in the event across 1A and 2A. No other event had more area competitors. Out of the eight that participated in the long jump, two walked away with silver medals.
