Kate Miller, daughter of Paul and Kristin Miller, took home not only the top honor but also a $500 college scholarship. Fairfield Mayor Connie Boyer bestowed the award on Kate during the Fairfield City Council’s meeting Monday, April 14.

FAIRFIELD – Four high school students at Maharishi School took home some of the highest honors at the State Science and Technology Fair of Iowa in Ames on March 27-28. But perhaps even more impressive than their individual awards was the award that the school as a whole received, winning the Claison “Clay” Groff Memorial Traveling Trophy given to the most successful high school at the fair.

For Fairfield, it was a stellar night as the Trojans put up a 161 points for the invitational title. Pekin and Van Buren County also represented in the nine team field. The Panthers took third with 113.5 points and Van Buren County followed in fourth with 102 points.

Pleasant girls tennis met at East Lake Park on Monday night and it ended up being a wonderful night for the Trojans. Fairfield picked up a sweeping victory over Mt. Pleasant, winning all nine matches. Individually, Poojita Mukadam was a winner for the Trojans in the number one matchup. Mukadam defeated Bethany Drury 8-2.
