Last month was the warmest December on record in Marlborough. And the region wasn’t far off having its hottest December day too. Data released by Plant and Food Research this week showed the hottest day of December 2024 was December 5, when the mercury reached 32.4C. This was the second equal hottest day recorded in any December on record, going back to 1930. The hottest day was 33.4C in December 1948. But only four days in 2024 recorded a maximum temperature of 30C or greater.

Big Scout are calling it quits the only way they know how. Full noise. The punk rock band from Blenheim will play their last headline show on Friday, after almost a decade together, and bassist Jim Tannock says he’s planning to “just f...ing smash it”. Lead singer Gregg Slatter says he’s going to “give it the beans”. The three-piece has been on a wild ride for the past nine years.
