OK, I admit it, I’m probably what Boris Johnson would call a “doomster and gloomster”. And while Boris was a truly terrible Prime Minister – he made a better Have I Got News for You host – he did understand the importance of enthusiasm or, indeed, “boosterism”. Scots have a reputation for being dour and some are afflicted by the dreaded ‘Scottish cultural cringe’, as if, somehow, we’re fated to be inferior to others, which is, of course, nonsense.
