Tonnage provider Seaspan Corp has forked out $210m for two 7,000 ceu dual fuel LNG pure car/truck carriers. The vessels have been purchased from one of the three Japanese carriers that own Ocean Network Express (ONE). They are expected to be delivered mid-2025 and will begin a long term charter on delivery, according to a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission.

Erasmus Shipinvest Group, the Athens-based shipowner led by John Su, has continued its push into the feeder container ship sector. The company has strengthened its boxship fleet with the en-bloc purchase of a pair of feeder boxships from Haifa-based XT Shipping, say shipbrokers. The 1,696-yeu Ela (built 2012) and the 1,809-teu Kestrel (built 2013) are understood to have been purchased for a combined sum of about $45m.

Danish liner giant AP Moller-Maersk is not ready to send ships through the Red Sea, despite the announcement of a ceasefire between the US and Houthi militia in Yemen. Such a move involves a costly and complex redeployment of ships and would be difficult to justify on safety grounds, chief executive Vincent Clerc told an earnings call on Thursday. In February, Maersk and partner Hapag-Lloyd launched the new Gemini network, based on transits around the Cape of Good Hope.
