• Article contentThe story of a local hockey pioneer’s contributions to the national game during its infancy have been brought to life in a new documentary just released by a local filmmaker. Dale Morrisey of WJP Media of Bath has produced the documentary, Captain James T. Sutherland and the Battle for Hockey’s Hall of Fame. Capt. Sutherland was born in Kingston and lived here all of his life. He played, refereed, coached and managed the game of hockey for the first half of the last century.

On July 16, 2010, I was sent to Queen’s University’s Tindall Field to take a photo of an athlete our sports reporter was writing about. Shortly after I arrived, I was called away after a high-speed chase between cigarette smugglers and the Ontario Provincial Police ended on Highway 401 westbound at Westbrook Road. I took a quick picture of the athlete then rushed to the scene. The police chase started in Merrickville, where the pickup truck’s driver refused to stop for police.
