As the University looks to possibly the number of graduate students in the next few years, the Department of Computer Science has announced a number of changes to the fifth-year master’s program in an effort to increase enrollment. Students told The Herald that these fifth-year programs have provided continuity with their undergraduate studies while preparing them for post-graduate careers.

The owners of The Furniture Mall chain might need to think about changing their jingle. As many television watchers know, it’s the Furniture Mall of Kansas that makes you go “OHH Yeah!,” but the founding Winter family is set to open its second Furniture Mall of Missouri by the end of the year, in the Northland’s Metro North Crossing shopping center at U.S. Route 169 and Missouri Route 152.

The Graduate Student Council amended their constitution and bylaws at their March general body meeting on Wednesday to adopt new election processes and rules. Now, candidates must apply for approval through a formal nomination process in March. All candidates are required to submit a campaign poster that includes details about their candidacy, degree track, department and other personal information. Previously, the steps to declare one’s candidacy were more informal.

Before Prohibition, Missouiri’s winemaking industry was one of the largest in the country, producing 100,000 gallons a year. In 1873, one of the state’s wines won Best of Show at the Vienna World’s Fair. Although the state’s winemaking capabilities are much less now, its wine scene is flourishing.

The University is looking to expand housing options for graduate students in the Jewelry District after a survey last spring found an estimated demand of 1,136 beds from graduate students and postdocs looking to live in the neighborhood. The survey results were presented at the Graduate Student Council meeting in December.
