The following are just a sample of what can be found in our July 2024 issue of Shipping T&Y. from NOTABLE INCIDENTSMultiple injuries were reported amongst passengers waiting to disembark the high-speed ferry Isola di Procida after it collided with the pier whilst berthing at Naples on 19th April 2024. Initial reports suggest 44 passengers were injured with 29 of those requiring hospital treatment and the impact caused several dents and gashes to the vessel’s hull.

Accidents & Incidents, Container & Cargo Ships, Cruise Ships, Ferries, World News Notable IncidentsMSC, the worlds largest container ship operator experienced a wretched week in late February and early March with three of its ships in the news for all the wrong reasons. On the last day of February, the 5,711 TEU MSC Katyayni’s engine failed as she was 300 miles off the northern east coast of Iberia.

Following is a taster of the news that appears in the April 2024 issue of Shipping T&Y. CONTAINER FLEETS by Ian SebireMaersk proudly introduced the first large scale container ship to be powered by methanol when the 16,000 TEU Ane Maersk (above) was named at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan, South Korea at the end of January. The vessel was scheduled to enter service on the AE7 loop between Asia and Europe in February.

From Notable Incidents:Sometimes the victims (ship and crew) of a maritime incident garner less attention than their rescuer. Such was arguably the case when the diminutive ro-ro cargo ship Two Brothers capsized 30nm north of Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic. Initial reports suggest that the vessel was overladen. First on the scene was the 133,596 gt cruise ship Carnival Vista which altered course to intercept the cargo ship’s drifting life raft and rescued six of the twelve strong crew.
