One man’s garbage can indeed be another one’s treasure. Recycling can be an easy and effective way to help the environment, but people tend to need a bit of incentive to start recycling. To this end, many places have some kind of return-and-earn scheme for drink cans and bottles. The compensation usually isn’t much — a few cents per can — but it’s something. And if you’re dedicated, you can make a decent bit of money from recycling.

How’s this for a feel-good story? If The Lord of the Rings or The Hobbit taught us anything, it’s not to judge someone’s abilities based on their size. The Texas section of Route 66 isn’t particularly long, stretching only around 180 miles across the Panhandle. Along this near-straight alignment, the largest (and only major) city you’ll pass is Amarillo. The second-largest city is Shamrock. And it’s a strangely Irish place. Despite its rank as the second-biggest city on Texas Route 66, Shamrock isn’t exactly big. Covering an area of two whopping square miles, the local population stands at just below 1,800.
