Okay, let's go. But where? How about Okay, OK? Okay! Why is this place called Okay, OK, though? And what is there? Is it okay for motorcyclists to visit? Well, Okay wasn’t always Okay. The first European settler, French trader Joseph Bogy, arrived in this part of Oklahoma’s Three Forks region sometime around 1806, establishing a small trading post. Yet, for a long time, the place had no official name (or at least no one wrote it down).

Next year, Route 66 is celebrating its centennial. The world’s most famous highway is turning 100. In anticipation of this milestone, Marisa, Caleb, and I set out last year to follow the iconic road’s 2,448 miles from Chicago to Santa Monica. I’m proud of the level of planning that went into this trip amidst a crazy production schedule.

Reaching the halfway point of any ride is an event in itself—there will be more miles behind you than there are ahead. Whether that’s a good or bad thing depends on the ride, I suppose. On Route 66, though, you’ll reach that midway milestone in Adrian, TX. A specific point on the south side of Adrian marks the geo-mathematical midpoint of the Mother Road. At this location, some 50 miles west of Amarillo in the Texas Panhandle, you’ll be 1,139 miles from both Chicago and Los Angeles.

Adventure and adventure-touring motorcycles have become increasingly popular over the past few years. Motorcycle tire manufacturers have responded by introducing a slew of tires that perform well on both asphalt and dirt—like the Michelin Anakee Adventure tire. Released to the riding public in 2019, the Adventure tire is the middle child of the Anakee family. They’re knobbier than the heavily street-biased Anakee 3 or Road tires, but not as rough as the 50/50 Wild tire.

The memories of our journeys along Route 66 and the Pacific Coast Highway stayed vivid in mine and Christian’s minds (see column in Apr ‘25). Back in Austria, we returned to our daily routines, working and making ends meet, but the thrill of those adventures refused to fade. One day, out of the blue, we asked ourselves: “Should we move to the U.S.?” I can’t remember whether it was Christian or I who said it first, but suddenly, the idea was on the table.
