The stage is set as I stare at the word “hope.”It’s coincidental and now appropriate the word is by my keyboard. I see it easily as I type this ... and reflect on what it means. The word is etched into a small, oval, stone-like trinket. It’s smooth and feels good to hold and perhaps squeeze out its purpose. To keep hope close. To keep hope in hand. It rests in a small, clear glass ashtray – a perfect frame that adds a bit of brilliance to the translucent “stone” ... and the word.

At Geneseo: La Salle-Peru opened the outdoor season with a third-place finish in a triangular. The host Maple Leafs won with 90 points, Sterling was second with 61, and the Cavaliers had 29. Joseph Gallicchio and Adam Kasperski recorded the wins for the Cavs. Gallicchio leapt 11.2 meters in the triple jump, and Kasperski ran an 11:04.29 in the 3,200 meters.

Contractors are continuing their storm sewer separation work on Ottawa’s South Side. The project includes street excavations, installation of storm sewer lines and roadway restoration and will require street closures. The 400 block of West Van Buren Street between Guthrie and Cornell streets will be closed for about on week beginning Tuesday, April 2. Thee 100 block of East Van Buren Street between State and Catherine streets will remain closed until the end of the day Friday, April 6.

Romeoville 2-4, Moline 1-3: At Romeoville, the Spartans swept a doubleheader from the Maroons. In game one, Jeremy Thompson lined a single to center field to drive home Nolan Holgado for the game-winning run in the last of the seventh. Game two saw the Spartans push across the go ahead run off of a balk then add to the margin later in the inning with an RBI single from Karlos Otero. Romeoville improves to 3-4 on the season.
