During that time, people like me have pointed to Elijah Craig Barrel Proof as a way to get at what the seminal brand was like during its initial three decade run, from the mid-1980s to the mid-2010s. This was because the cask strength version retained that 12 year age statement.

Even though the 35,000 residents of the rural Lincoln County love Jack Daniel’s Distillery, in the way that one can adore their biggest employer and tourist draw, at least some residents have apparently had enough of the black fungus that accompanies whiskey distilling growing all over the outside of buildings in the county.

Bruichladdich Distillery unveiled the 14th annual series of Octomore, its super-heavily peated single malt earlier this month, so those bottles should be on or near local shelves by now. First released in 2008, Octomore single malts continue to defy whisky wisdom today. Matured for five years, bottled close to cask strength and always super-heavily peated, Octomore’s surprising elegance has led the distillery to define it as “The Impossible Equation”.

The deal supports the long-term growth of both companies and strengthens Illva Saronno Holding’s presence in the United States, which started with Disaronno International LLC in 2014.
