Tears flowed on Saturday in Uromi, Edo State, as the remains of the hunters who were lynched by a mob were interred. Members of the Hausa community converged on the community cemetery to pay their last respects to the victims, who were burnt to death on Friday after being accused of being kidnappers. Our correspondents had earlier reported that the men were travelling in a Dangote Cement truck when they were intercepted around 1.30pm by local security guards.

The political crisis in Rivers State took a new twist late Friday following allegations by a former Head of Service, Dr George Nweke, that Governor Siminalayi Fubara ordered the bombing of the state House of Assembly complex in 2023. The complex was suspected to have been bombed by militants operating on the orders of some politicians in the state.

President Bola Tinubu and some governors in the country have condemned the gruesome murder of 16 travellers by an irate mob in Uromi, Edo State. While the President ordered a manhunt for the killers, the governors joined in demanding justice for the victims. Mistaken identitySaturday PUNCH gathered that the victims, who claimed to be hunters, were travelling in a Dangote Cement truck when they were accosted around 1.30pm in Udune Efandion community by local security.

During the workshop, held at NECA House, Alausa, on Thursday, CST members, drawn from 15 local government areas, identified prevalent forms of sexual and domestic violence as well as child abuse in their communities.
