President Bola Tinubu and members of the Northern Governors’ Forum on Sunday joined grieving families and communities in mourning the 13 travellers from Zaria, Kaduna State, killed in a mob attack in Plateau State. The victims were buried in Mangu and Qua’an Pan local government areas of Plateau State. Nine of the deceased were buried on Saturday at the Hayi Muslim Cemetery in Mangu, while the remaining four, whose bodies were later recovered, were laid to rest in Qua’an Pan LG on Sunday.

President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday set up a committee to help restore sustainable peace to Benue State following last Friday’s massacre in Yelewata community in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, which saw around 200 people killed. Members of the peace committee selected by the President include former Military Governor of Benue State, Gen Atom Kpera (retd.), Senator George Akume, Senator Gabriel Suswam and Samuel Ortom — all former Benue governors.

Key political figures and traditional rulers gathered at the Benue State Government House banquet hall in Makurdi, the state capital and Yelewata, site of last Friday’s killings, as President Bola Tinubu is expected today. Wednesday’s visit is aimed at meeting with community leaders to address the prolonged communal violence that has claimed over 500 lives in 2025 alone.

18th June 2025 President Bola Tinubu has visited persons recovering from last Friday’s attack by armed herders on Yelewata, in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State. The attack claimed over 100 lives. The patients are recuperating at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital. Tinubu arrived at the Nigeria Air Force Base Airport in Makurdi at about 12:58 pm on a condolence visit to Benue State.
