Initially detained at the Santa Anita racetrack in Southern California, she passed the time by learning how to draw from Walt Disney animators and fellow detainees. As these early mentors encouraged her artistic expression, Asawa forged ahead, experimenting with various media and found objects.

A man suspected of killing a 17 year old in Stow earlier this year is now charged with first degree murder. Authorities say Shane Curry, 20, killed Nevaeh Goddard, his girlfriend, in April. Curry was originally arraigned in April on charges of assault with a weapon. Prosectors have now upgraded those charges to murder, the Middlesex District Attorney said in a statement on Friday. Police responded to a wellness check on April 5 on Great Road in Stow, prosecutors said.
