In the early hours of 21 Mar 25, the Indian Navy successfully carried out a critical Medical Evacuation (MEDEVAC) operation from MV Heilan Star, a Panama-flagged bulk carrier, located about 230 nautical miles West of Goa. On the night of 20/21 Mar 25, the Indian Coast Guard’s Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre(MRCC) at Mumbai informed the Indian Navy of four crew members of MV Heilan Star having sustained severe burn injuries and requiring immediate advanced medical care.

Indian Navy has championed the cause of ‘Aatmanirbharta’ wherein it has transformed from a Buyer’s Navy to a Builder’s Navy with over 60 warships being constructed in Indian Shipyards. Indian Naval Aviation which forms an integral part of the Navy, is also steadfast on this path. Towards charting a firm course in this direction, a vision document ‘Aatmanirbhar Indian Naval Aviation –Technological Roadmap 2047’ has been formulated and is planned for release during Aero India 2025.

Vice Admiral Rajaram Swaminathan, AVSM, NM assumed charge as the Controller of Warship Production & Acquisition on 30 Jan 25 from Vice Admiral B Sivakumar, AVSM, VSM. VAdm Swaminathan was commissioned in Indian Navy in 1987. He is a post-graduate from IIT, Kharagpur. In a career spanning more than 37 years, he has worked onboard the Aircraft Carrier, INS Viraat, for more than nine years in various capacities.

Indian Navy warships INS Surat, INS Nilgiri and INS Vaghsheer were commissioned on Tuesday at the Naval Dockyard in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The commissioning of the three frontline naval combatants will strengthen the country's efforts towards being a global leader in defence and augment its strength towards self-reliance, PM Modi said in a post on X. The Navy described the commissioning of the three major combatants as a historic occasion.

The deep depression over the Southwest Bay of Bengal has intensified into Cyclone ‘Fengal,’ which is expected to make landfall on Saturday afternoon near Puducherry. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the storm will bring wind speeds of 70-80 mph, with gusts reaching 90 mph. Cyclone Fengal has already caused significant damage to paddy crops in Nagapattinam, submerging over 800 acres of farmland. Farmers in affected villages are seeking immediate relief measures.
