Despite Hollywood’s halfhearted push towards diversity (and the subsequent backlash to this push), it would take years before we’d happen across such widespread mainstream representation again.

The newly elected family court judge’s social skills were on full display as she strolled into her swearing-in at a jam-packed downtown Houston courtroom on Monday, Jan. 20. It was Martin Luther King Jr. Day (also, ironically, the second inauguration of President Donald Trump), and the room was filled with well-wishers using their day off to celebrate her.
