The Sopranos is celebrating its 25th anniversary. The David Chase–created series debuted on HBO on Jan. 10, 1999, and lasted eight years until its much-talked-about finale aired in June 2007. The show continues to be lauded as the best series in TV history, and that’s a fact, and not at all up for debate. Not here at Complex, at least.

As our greatest unifier and language, music is once again the real winner here. This year’s albums granted us the gift of saying so much with no words at all—or as many as the track would allow. Its best offering this year was healing and joy. Fun was had in the making of artists’ foundational projects like the carefree energy on Sexyy Red’s Hood Hottest Princess, and we saw a successful, elevated return to one’s roots exemplified by Bad Bunny’s Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana.

Your favorite rapper is a personal preference, one that requires the most subjective defenses. If you’re rooting for the rookie of the year or a washed-up veteran experiencing a career resurgence or someone no one has heard of as your favorite, then so be it. The choice is yours.
