The balance between cell growth, proliferation and differentiation emerges from gene regulatory networks coupled to various signal transduction pathways, including reactive oxygen species (ROS) and transcription factors (TFs), enabling developmental responses to environmental cues. The Arabidopsis thaliana's primary root has become a valuable system for unraveling such networks. Recently, the role of TFs that mediate the ROS's inhibition of primary root growth has begun to be characterized.

Nucleotide-binding domain and leucine-rich repeat-containing receptor (NLR) proteins can form complex receptor networks to confer innate immunity. NLR-REQUIRED FOR CELL DEATH (NRCs) are phylogenetically related nodes that function downstream of a massively expanded network of disease resistance proteins that protect against multiple plant pathogens. Here, we used phylogenomic methods to reconstruct the macroevolution of the NRC family.

Poxins are poxviral proteins that act by degrading 2´3´-cGAMP, a key molecule of cGAS-STING axis that drives and amplifies the antiviral response. Previous works have described some poxin homologous among lepidopteran and baculoviral genes. In particular, P26, a poxin homologous from AcMNPV retains the 2´3´-cGAMP degradation activity in vitro.
