The UK Biobank is a prospective cohort study that included 502,389 participants aged 37–73 years who resided within 25 miles of 22 recruiting centers between 2006 and 2010. The study was approved by the North West Multi-centre Research Ethics Committee. The methodological details and rationale of the UK Biobank have been published elsewhere [13,14,15].

We carried out a prospective cohort study of participants recruited from UK Biobank. A detailed description of the study design is available elsewhere [19,20,21]. Overall, eligible participants were recruited from 22 assessment centers across England, Wales, and Scotland between 2006 and 2010. All the study participants provided electronically signed consent using a signature-capture device.
