Alaska’s governor,itstwo U.S. senators and three Trump administration officials gathered Sunday in an Anchorage hotel to extol an executive order meant to boost the state’s resource development industry. The order at the heart of the meeting was signed by President Donald Trump in January, during the first day of his second term. It laid out several provisions aimed at smoothing the path toward more drilling for oil and gas; more logging; more mining; and more hunting on federal lands.

Some other priorities stalled in the final days of the session — like public pension and election reforms. But the 33 bills adopted by lawmakers in the 120-day session covered a wide range of topics, including updates to Alaska’s insurance laws, establishing Women’s History Month and extending certain boards and commissions.

JUNEAU — On what would have been the 121st day of the first regular session of Alaska’s 34th Legislature, the co-chair of the House Finance Committee was wearing a Hawaiian shirt and piling paperwork into boxes. Lawmakers had successfully adjourned on Tuesday, a day ahead of the constitutional deadline for the end of the first regular session, surprising even themselves after last year’s session ended one hour after the constitutional deadline.
