The backlog of open UK employment tribunal cases has risen by over a quarter (23 per cent) in just 12 months, according to Littler. The employment law firm analysed the latest HM Courts & Tribunals Service statistics and revealed that the number of open cases reached 49,800 in December 2024, increasing from 39,000 the previous year. There are currently approximately 450,000 individuals across single and multiple claims waiting for their cases to be resolved, the analysis found.

“The relationship between career and work is changing,” Eliza Filby, author of Inheritocracy and generations expert, told delegates at the Watercooler conference yesterday (7 May). Speaking as part of the keynote fireside chat, Filby told attendees it has been estimated that Gen Z will have five careers and work for 15 employers in their lifetimes. “Multifaceted careers are a growing trend that will be most pronounced in the generation that is going to be competing with AI,” she explained.

Fintech company Revolut has adopted a point-based system to track employee behaviour, according to its latest annual report. The report sets out that the firm’s ‘Karma’ system “evaluates engagement with risk and compliance processes, resulting in employees gaining and losing points that will ultimately affect bonuses”. The tool aims to “incentivise good business practices” and “drive employee understanding and ownership at all phases of the risk life cycle”, it explained.
