WHITNEY, Texas (KWTX) - Starting September 1st it will be a first-degree felony in Texas to shoot from your car into or at another car. This comes after Governor Abbott signed Senate Bill 3031 into law Friday. Krista Wilson has been a big supporter of this bill, having tragically lost her 17-year-old daughter back in December of 2023 after an angry driver shot and killed her while she was driving through Houston.

WACO, Texas (KWTX) - After months of back and forth on whether Governor Abbott would sign into law or veto Senate Bill 3, he officially vetoed the bill late last night. SB 3 sought to ban the possession, sale, and consumption of THC or hemp-based products throughout the state. During this legislative session the House originally came up with a bill to regulate THC, but when it got to the Senate they changed it to the current version, which is what ultimately passed both chambers.

WACO, Texas (KWTX) - After hours of interviews and discussions the Waco ISD Board of Trustees now has a new board member. This comes after District 2’s former trustee, Stephanie Korteswig, announced her resignation, officially leaving in May and leaving the seat vacant. Board president Jose Vidana says they had the option to either leave the seat vacant until November or open up applications. “We all agreed that we would take applications to have an appointment for this seat,” Vidana explained.

TEMPLE, Texas (KWTX) - A recent raid of THC dispensaries in Temple and Belton has now intensified the marijuana conversation in Central Texas. This past Friday, June 13th, a total of seven smoke and vape shops were raided by authorities for their THC products. According to Temple PD’s media relations coordinator, Sydney McBride, the investigation into these shops began back in January.

WACO, Texas (KWTX/Gray News) – An 18-year-old died after he slipped and fell over a 50-foot waterfall while on a graduation trip with his friend. Family and friends of Grant Herridge are in mourning after he tragically died June 8 in the accident at Olympic National Park in Washington state. Brad Herridge, Grant’s father, says Grant had wanted to go on this trip for years.
