Houston High School graduated seniors could receive $676,620 in scholarships and other aid, school officials announced. Many of the financial awards were disclosed during Decision Day on May 2 and graduation on May 10. These students will receive $7,000 per year for a two year total of $14,000.

The National Weather Service said there is a severe thunderstorm potential Thursday and Friday. There is a marginal (1 of 5) risk on Thursday and an enhanced (3 of 5) risk on Friday. Additional rain and thunderstorm chances continue Saturday into early next week and additional severe weather will be possible early next week, the National Weather Service said.

A Missouri Department of Revenue license office is closing May 19 until further notice. The agency said the Willow Springs location at 705 E. Main is closing. The fee agent’s contract expired, and the state is seeking proposals to operate the Howell County location. Parties can submit a proposal for the bid online at missouribuys.mo.gov. Other licensing locations that can be used by customers are Houston, Mountain View, West Plains and Mountain Grove.

Drivers on Route 17 between Houston and Evening Shade will want to know of delays as construction crews work on pavement improvements. According to the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), the affected section of Route 17 runs between Route AW near Roby and U.S 63 in Houston. During construction, one lane will remain open with a 10-foot width restriction in place. Weather permitting, work is set for completion by Saturday, Nov. 1.

The legislature gave final approval May 12 for a bill naming Emmett Kelly Day in Missouri. The last Saturday in April of each year is designated as “Emmett Kelly Day” in Missouri. “The citizens of this state are encouraged to honor the life of Emmett Kelly, who was a famous circus performer, also known as Weary Willie, from Houston, Missouri” reads the bill. Missouri’s Senate passed the bill by accepting additional designations made by the House. It awaits Gov.

A woman from Memphis was arrested Saturday following a Howell County shooting aimed at another vehicle that had children as passengers, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said. An arrest was made in Texas County. The Missouri State Highway Patrol released this statement: On May 10, at 11:40 a.m., Troop G received a report of a possible shooting involving a black Ford Taurus with Tennessee registration on U.S. 63 near Route 14.
