Houston Herald

Founded in 1878, the Houston Herald is a celebrated weekly newspaper that serves as the main publication for Texas County. In 2015, it received recognition as one of the best newspapers in its category during the Missouri Better Newspaper Contest. The Herald also produces a section called The Messenger, which is distributed to local homes that do not have a subscription to the newspaper.

    An inmate at the South Central Correctional Center died Wednesday evening, the Missouri Department of Corrections said. Kevin Hausmann, 72, was pronounced deceased at 9:12 p.m. in a medical unit at the prison in Licking. He was serving a life sentence for one count of first-degree sodomy or attempted sodomy out of Barry County. He had been in prison since November 2021. An autopsy will be conducted, authorities said.
